Alright. Its over three months since you wedded and 'honeymooned'. You have rested enough and have spent quality time with your husband, as well as getting familiar with your new environment. Atleast, you now know your way to the market, hair salon, church, etc. What next? Pregnancy! That's it.
But whilst thinking of getting your own kids, your mind has been pandering on the number of kids you'd want to give birth to. What will be the ideal family size you may have thought? You have probably settled for 4 kids in your heart, but what number would your husband want from you?
Well, this issue isn't something you alone can decide on. You must involve your husband so you both can arrive at a choice number of kids. While some couples may opt for 2-4 kids, others prefer large family of 6 kids. These couples are oftentimes influenced by their cultural background and knack to uphold family tradition.
In view of this, we carried out research on the Nigeria ideal family size, as well as factors militating against the size.In the course of our social media research, we discovered that about 60% of Nigerians prefers family size of 4 kids, 25% interviewed, prefer 2-3 kids, while the remaining 15% prefer 6 kids
In Africa, an analysis conducted conducted in 15 West Africa, 8 in Central Africa, and 14 in East Africa, by health survey program & UN population division, using the recent available data, shows that change in fertility rate is slowest in West Africa. The data from Demographic & Health survey & PMA2020 program indicates that more than more than 50% of married women in Kenya use modern contraceptive and fertility has dropped below 4 children per woman from more than 5 just 10years ago.
In the other hand, most countries in West Africa show some of the lowest contraceptive prevalence rates in the world. Countries like Benin, Guinea, & Nigeria puts the contraceptive use of those countries at 10% or below according to an article by Elizabeth Leahy Madsen titled "What's behind West and Central Africa's Youth Demographics?"
The average number of kids in USA is 2, Canada 3 kids, Nigeria is 4 kids and above.
So, how many kids do you want to have? 2,3,4, above?
